In 2014, the World Water Week in Stockholm has a theme of “Energy and Water” which is held between August 31 and September 5.

World Water Week is hosted and organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) and takes place in Stockholm. The World Water Week has been the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues since 1991.

Each year the World Water Week addresses a particular theme to enable a deeper examination of a specific water-related topic. While not all events during the week relate to the overall theme, the workshops driven by the Scientific Programme Committee and many seminars and side events focus on various aspects of the theme.

CEO Water Mandate Stockholm Working Conference (September 1-3)
As with years past, the Mandate Secretariat will convene several multi-stakeholder sessions coinciding with Stockholm World Water Week. In order to attend the events on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (September 2-3), you will need to register for the Stockholm World Water Week Conference (here).

CEO Water Mandate Working Session – Monday, 1 September
(12 PM – 7 PM); Rica Talk Hotel 3rd Floor Meeting Rooms “Scream” (T33) and “Whisper” (T34)

Topics to be covered during this multi-stakeholder dialogue include:
• The business case for action on sanitation
• How companies can support achievement of WASH-related targets in a Post-2015 world
• Delineating good practice in corporate respect of the human rights to water and sanitation
• Exploring sufficiency in water stewardship collective action
• Sector focused innovations in the Mandate’s Water Action Hub
• Defining good practice in corporate water disclosure

The seminar is a collaboration with the Water Integrity Network, the German government agencies GIZ and BMZ, the Alliance for Water Stewardship, and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and will look to answer two inter-related questions: a) how can corporate water stewardship initiatives be made most effective to tackle shared water-related challenges and improve water security, and b) how can their societal benefit be ensured?

Corporate Water Stewardship: Leveraging Collective Action in the Agricultural Supply Chain – Wednesday, 3 September
(9 AM – 12:30 PM); Stockholmsmässan Conference Center (Room T4)

This seminar will feature interactive multi-stakeholder panels that will share current best-practices in promoting collective action in sustainable agriculture initiatives, exhibit corporate case studies and lessons learned, and explore the contours of how such corporate water stewardship supply chain efforts can be further up-scaled and/or aligned/integrated with water-related sustainable agriculture programs led by government entities and others.
