Switzerland has four priorities for the fight against Ebola raging in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea: care and treatment of patients, prevention, strengthening of health systems and reduction of collateral damage, such as food insecurity or the lack of basic health care. The SDC supports its partners on the ground, such as «Médecins sans frontières Switzerland», a key player in managing the crisis.
Another important theme in this newsletter is the accelerated retreat of Andean glaciers in recent years, specific case of Peru. Flooding caused by overflows of glacial lakes, flash floods, landslides and avalanches all pose a threat to the rural populations in Peru. The SDC supports Swiss and Peruvian specialists to study the phenomenon in order to reduce the vulnerability of local populations.
These and other activities and experiences of the different projects that the Swiss Cooperation – SDC drives around the world are presented in the sixth edition of the SDC Newsletter; we invite you to learn more about these activities in this link.
