Representatives of 24 countries from the continent took part in the VI Latin American Meeting on Community Water Management concluded in Chile
The president of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, opened the event, and emphasised the work of the community water organisations in rural areas. Its aim is to provide an opportunity to discuss and share experiences and improve the work of Latin America’s Community Potable Water and Sanitation Management Organisations (OCSAS).
President Bachelet also said that “Chile has been suffering from water shortages in some areas for over eight years and that this is something that is here to stay”. She added: “I am convinced that we must consolidate a new model for treating and regulating rural potable water, with a new institutional framework, for developing sustainable sanitation services”.
