Sustainable water resources and water conservation management are fundamental pillars for environmental sustainability and social well-being. In this context, the “El Agua Nos Une (United for Water)” project has taken on a leadership role in the Watershed Natural Infrastructure and Water Conservation Working Group (GT INCA), highlighting Switzerland’s commitment to promoting innovative and sustainable water management solutions.
In an important meeting convened by the Interregional Chillon-Rimac-Lurin Basin Water Resources Council Technical Secretariat (CRHCI – CHIRILU) of the National Water Authority (ANA) on Wednesday, March 13, members of the Watershed Natural Infrastructure and Water Conservation Working Group (GT INCA) gathered to assess the achievements reached during 2023 and outline the action lines for the current year. During this meeting, the election of the new coordinator of the GT INCA was also held, a key moment that reflects the dynamism and continuous evolution of the group.
United for Water (EANU) was honored with the coordination of the GT INCA, a recognition of its leadership and commitment to promoting sustainable practices for water resource management. This intersectoral group brings together about 30 public and private institutions and focuses on promoting the development of natural infrastructure in the vital basins of Chillon, Rimac, and Lurin, which are areas of action of the project.
In this first meeting of the GT INCA, the EANU project presented a study on the state of natural infrastructure in these basins, identifying key challenges such as the need for increased financing and improvements in the operation and maintenance of existing projects. In this sense, a comprehensive strategy has been drafted to stimulate investment and strengthen local capacities, with a particular focus on the active participation of the business sector.
The choice of the United for Water project as GT INCA coordinator highlights the project´s effectiveness and vision in achieving a more sustainable and equitable water future, reflecting confidence in its integrative approach and its ability to drive significant changes. This role not only reaffirms its position in promoting water sustainability at the regional level but, with this leadership, United for Water commits to advancing water conservation and natural infrastructure, thus contributing to efforts to address the water crisis and achieve sustainable development goals.
