Water Week 2024
In a world where water is a vital and essential resource for life, the celebration of World Water Day on March 22 takes on even greater significance. In this context, the United for Water project (EANU-PE), an initiative implemented in Peru by the consortium Care Peru and SABAvida with the support of International Cooperation – SDC, has actively joined in the commemoration of Water Week in Peru through a series of activities aimed at promoting water awareness and fostering responsible practices around this fundamental resource.
Sharing knowledge for action: The United for Water project was present at the meeting “Water and Gender for Peace and Prosperity,” organized by the National Water Authority (ANA). Diana Orellana, head of the EANU-PE project, and Susana Osorio, Gender and Compliance Manager of CARE Peru, shared their knowledge and experiences on the relationship between water, gender, and sustainable development, demonstrating the project’s commitment to gender equality in water access and management.
Voces por el Agua: A call for collective action: The digital campaign “Voces por el Agua” (Voices for Water) filled social networks with inspiring testimonies from participants and allies of the project, calling on the community to take action in favor of water conservation. This initiative sought to encourage active participation of citizens in water management. We share the testimonies of different actors that highlight the importance of water and their commitment to manage it properly and care for it for future generations.
Seeding awareness in the new generations: In collaboration with the Provincial Municipality of Huarochirí-Matucana (Lima) and local schools, a school parade and a poster contest were organized. These playful and participatory activities invited the school community to reflect on the importance of water and the responsibility we all have in its care. The project’s support for this initiative reflects its commitment to environmental education and the training of new generations in water responsibility.
Beyond the celebrations, the United for Water project stands out for its comprehensive approach to sustainable water management in the Rimac River basin. Its work translates into concrete actions such as strengthening the capacities of authorities and companies in water management, promoting active participation of civil society in decision-making related to water, and implementing measures for the protection and conservation of water sources.
In the framework of World Water Day, Swiss Cooperation, through the United for Water project, reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable water management and to continue working alongside local actors to ensure a prosperous water future for present and future generations.
