[Capacity-building in Bolivia] CEDRIG training and an asynchronous course on climate change

From March to May 2021, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation held training sessions on “Climate change, the NDCs and government agencies’ role in the climate agenda” over eight weeks for 40 officials of the Pluri-national Authority of Mother Earth (APMT), the Ministry of Environment and Water (MMAYA), the Ministry of Rural Development and Land (MDRyT) and the Ministry of Planning.

The course had 13 sessions, with seminars that presented clear, updated and quality information on climate change and the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Two climate change experts, Óscar Paz Rada and Mauricio Ernesto Zaballa Romero, facilitated the sessions.

As a result of this course, SDC drafted an asynchronous user guide to disseminate to other officials and technicians in the field, using a self-learning and self-assessment approach. Its aim was to provide basic climate change concepts, existing tools for the sectors to work on mitigation and adaptation measures, and information for them to learn in detail about the international talks on climate change that have produced responsibilities and opportunities for developing countries. To date, over 600 people have registered and received the material.

Osvaldo Limachi, head of the Integrated Programme Coordination Unit of the Rural Development Department at the MDRyT said that the course refreshes and expands knowledge on climate change, with important inputs for the challenge faced for demonstrating the climate change adaptation activities in agricultural programmes and projects, as part of national policies.

Resilient Andes will continue to disseminate this course in different forums and platforms. If you wish to register and receive the material containing videos, follow-up questions and material for further study, you can do so through this link.

In addition to this course, Resilient Andes and Helvetas Bolivia will support the Ministry of Rural Development and Lands in training on the CEDRIG tool (the Guide for the Integration of Climate, Environment and Disaster Risk Reduction) developed by SDC.

This is part of internal training for 150 central government officials, as part of the high-level course on Agricultural Project Formulation, Management and Evaluation, organised jointly with the Bolivian Indigenous University Aymara Tupac Katari, Swisscontact and IICA Bolivia. It is being held from 5 October to 31 November.

Both projects are part of the regional Andes Resilient to Climate Change project in Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru, facilitated by the consortium HELVETAS Swiss Inter-cooperation – AVINA Foundation and promoted by SDC’s Global Programme on Climate Change and Environment.
